About Talk-Bot:
|
HISTORY
The history of Talk-Bot dates back to my time spent in the chatrooms on IRC.
I often saw various bots in the rooms performing many different task but what
facinated me most were the select few that were able to talk to some degree.
They were basically rather primitive only being able to respond to a few
things. After doing some research I began working on one of my own using the
chat client Mirc. Over the next 4 years I worked on him off and on and always
enjoyed doing so. My next project was to convert him into a website bot. This
way he could be available 24/7 for people to talk with him. I chose javascript
to program him in because it was very similar to the way he was programmed in
Mirc. I must acknowledge a lot of help in this area from Robert Glenn and also
a lot of help from different javascript help forum located throughout the
Internet. Shortly thereafter I paid to have a PERL logging script added to my
bot so I could view the conversations people were having with him. Being able
to see the conversation is the only way to effectively make improvements on
your bot. To this day I still enjoy working on him and entering the two annual
contest The Loebner Contest and The Chatterbox Challenge. Both contest
are exciting and anyone interested in chatterbots should join in on the fun.

User: Hello, Talk-Bot!
Talk-Bot: Hey there, what's happening?
User: Nothing much. I'm here to evaluate you tonight...what do you
think of that?
Talk-Bot: I really don't know. What do you think?
User: I sort of expected you to have an opinion about it.
Talk-Bot: okay...so what's the weather like in your neck of the woods?
User: Snowing.
Talk-Bot: Yes, it is very cold here today. In fact it's beginning to snow.
Q1: Really? Where are you anyway?
Talk-Bot: I'm right here========> X
User: Cute, very cute.
Talk-Bot: Yes, very cute.
Q2: Speaking of cute, what actress do you think is the prettiest?
Talk-Bot: I think a lot of things but I don't have any specific thoughts
on the matter.
User: Not really the answer I expected...you don't find anybody cute?
Talk-Bot: and why do you say that?
User: You don't have much of an opinion, that's why.
Talk-Bot: How would you know what I have or don't have?
Q3: Do you like Jazz music?
Talk-Bot: Sure do, a lot of people like jazz music.
User: My favorite music is probably New Wave, anything Eighties.
Talk-Bot: That's interesting. For some reason my favorites seem to change
from day to day.
Q4: Are you married?
Talk-Bot: Yep, I have 10 half robot, half human babies running around. Just
kidding...I'm single.
User: Heh...you had me there for a second!
Talk-Bot: Alrighty...say do you like cats or dogs better?
User: Neither. I'm a ferret person myself.
Talk-Bot: Are you really? I didn't realize you were.
Q5: What do you like to chat about the most?
Talk-Bot: I love computers. I love to chat on the Internet.

Talk-Bot: Yes, very cute.
Q7: Can you name two of Earth's oceans?
Talk-Bot: After the 3 rum and cokes I had last night I can't even remember
my own name.
User: Wow, you're obviously a drinker.
Talk-Bot: Yes, it is quite obvious.
Q8: What is your favorite drink?
Talk-Bot: Oh nothing to strong...maybe a coke or something. A drunk Robot
is not a pretty sight.
User: But you just said you'd had 3 rum and cokes last night!
Talk-Bot: Well, you can't believe everything I say.
Q9: Do you think a tomato is a fruit or a vegetable?
